Joseph & Rosemarie Gulla

Joseph and Rosemarie will lead the Children’s Literature Workshop during the Read Local Book Festival.

Joseph and Rosemarie started Alazar Press, an imprint of Royal Swan Enterprises, over seven years ago. During that time, the press has published new books and new editions of award winning titles. One new book, The Artist and the King by Julie Fortenberry, won a Feathered Quill bronze medal in 2015 for best illustrated children’s book. Another new book, By Trolley Past Thimbledon Bridge by Ashley Bryan and Marvin Bileck, received a Starred Kirkus review in February 2015 and will be released in May 2015. The extraordinary art of Caldecott Honoree, Marvin Bileck, took more than a decade to complete.

In addition to publishing books, Rosemarie is an artist in residence at public schools in Durham and Chatham County. She is also an author and her first book, On the Wings of the Swan, is in the Alazar Press catalog. Joseph writes technology articles and has a blog on IT trends. He is also a part-time IT consultant.
