Janice Mack Guess is the author of “Little Colored Girls Want to Wear Pearls Too! A True Story From the Children Who Lived It.” A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Janice Mack Guess moved to Durham, NC when she was ten years old. She is an alumnus of the legendary Hillside High School and North Carolina Central University. She retired from GlaxoSmith Kline following an illustrious career spanning 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Ms. Guess currently works as an administrator at NCCU. She is the proud mother of two children, grandmother to four and lives in Durham with her husband, Larry.
“Little Colored Girls Want to Wear Pearls Too!” is about the challenges Janice Mack Guess and her siblings faced when they desegregated Durham’s Brogden Junior High School in 1964 during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. It is a story for all ages, but written especially for young people.
