Maj Gen Charles J. Dunlap, Jr., USAF (Ret.) is the Executive Director of the Center on Law, Ethics and National Security at Duke Law School, where he is also is a Professor of the Practice of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s University (PA), and his law degree from Villanova University. Prior to retiring from the military in June of 2010, General Dunlap assisted in the supervision of more than 2,500 military and civilian attorneys worldwide. His 34-year career included tours in both the United Kingdom and Korea, and he deployed for military operations in Africa and the Middle East. A distinguished graduate of the National War College, General Dunlap is the author of more than 100 publications, and speaks frequently on a wide variety of topics including law of armed conflict issues, cyberwar, drones, civil-military relations, ethics,military justice, and a phenomena he calls “lawfare”.
